4 Things to Consider This Earth Day

Happy Earth Day Pod Squad! This day not only holds so much meaning to me both personally and professionally (the OGs know what I'm talking about), but it also provides all of us with a great opportunity to reflect on our relationship with the planet and how we can be more mindful of our impact on it. This Earth Day I encourage the Pod Squad to take the time to reflect on your daily habits and routines and to identify areas where you might be inadvertently causing harm to the environment. This is the first steps to take to reduce our environmental footprint and minimize our negative impact.

Reflecting on our actions is super important because it helps us realize how they affect our planet. Once we know this, we can start making better choices to help appreciate and heal the earth. For example, ditching those single-use plastic bags and using reusable ones or biking instead of driving whenever possible are small changes we can make that contribute to a more sustainable future.

It's also essential to learn to appreciate our planet if we want to protect it. Spending time in nature can help us see how beautiful it is and how important it is to our lives. This can motivate us to do more to protect and preserve it for generations to come. So this Earth Day, let's take some time to reflect on our impact on the planet and find ways we can make a positive change to help heal and appreciate our beautiful planet. Together, we can create a better and more sustainable future for all of us!

4 Considerations For You This Earth Day

1. Are you spending enough time outdoors?

Did you know that spending time outdoors has many benefits for not just our physical but also our mental health? Research has shown that spending time in nature can reduce stress, improve mood, and boost cognitive function. So why not get off your phone and take a walk in the park or hike a trail, and take in the sights, sounds, and smells of the natural world?

Not feeling leaving your house? I have the solution! Grow your own plants in your garden or on your balcony to get your hands dirty and appreciate nature from the comfort of your own place.

When we disconnect from the environment, it's easy to forget the impact that our actions have on the planet. So let's immerse ourselves in nature - remind ourselves of the importance of taking care of the environment. This firsthand experience makes us more mindful of the impact our daily choices have on the environment.

2. Are you eating enough whole foods?

Cooking with whole foods straight from the earth is a game-changer for our health and the environment. Not only do we get to enjoy delicious, nutrient-rich meals, but we also get to contribute to a more sustainable food system. When we opt for locally sourced whole foods, we are supporting farmers who use environmentally-friendly practices, reducing the negative impact on the planet. Plus, it's a win-win situation since we get to enjoy fresher produce with fewer chemicals.

Switching to whole foods doesn't have to be boring, either! There are so many exciting and flavorful recipes to explore that feature fruits and veggies as the star ingredient. With some creativity in the kitchen, you can whip up tasty meals that are good for you and the planet.

I absolutely love going to my mom's house and "shopping" her garden for fresh produce. She has always had a green thumb and grows a variety of fruits and vegetables throughout the year. From juicy tomatoes to crisp lettuce and sweet strawberries, I love being able to pick fresh produce straight from the earth.

Not only is it a fun activity, but it also promotes sustainability and reduces our carbon footprint. We don't always have to rely on shipping produce from faraway places, which can use a lot of energy and produce greenhouse gases. Above all, the taste of freshly picked produce is unmatched!

Another perk of visiting my mom's house is getting fresh eggs from her chickens. There's nothing quite like cracking open a perfectly round egg with a bright yellow yolk that was laid just that morning. I really appreciate the confidence to know exactly where my food is coming from and to be able to support sustainable practices.

3. Do you have enough outdoor hobbies that include nature?

Now, let's start with the basics. You can do all sorts of things to connect with nature, like birdwatching or stargazing. You might even see a shooting star or two! You can even get involved in your community and help protect the planet. Join a local environmental organization and pitch in with conservation efforts. Or, join a community garden and grow your own veggies! Trust me, there's nothing quite like the satisfaction of eating something you've grown yourself.

Let me tell you about this one time when I decided to get creative and use plants in a different way - making art! It was a bit tricky at first, trying to figure out which plants worked best and how to arrange them just right, but I eventually got the hang of it.

As I worked on my plant art, I couldn't help but be amazed at the intricate patterns and colors that nature creates. It was like each leaf and petal had its own unique personality, and I was just the lucky one who got to arrange them into something beautiful. The art with plants was a Staghorn workshop at Pippi+Lola LBX location. Where with the help of owner Dynelly and a horticulture professor from LBCC, I learned how to mindfully and carefully create this living plant art for my home. And of course, doing this activity with my mom made the activity that much more beautiful!

 4. Are you purchasing from sustainable companies?

Spending your money with sustainable businesses is an easy way to reduce your carbon footprint. Not only are you doing your part to reduce waste and help the environment, but you're also helping these companies succeed. As a fellow small business owner, I know how important it is to have people support your mission. Plus, it feels good to know you're contributing to a better future for the planet.

Speaking of sustainable companies, did you know that my small business offers 100% organic cotton onesies and tees for babies and toddlers? Using 100% organic cotton is crucial for children's clothing because it's free from harmful pesticides and chemicals that can be harmful to their delicate skin. Not only that, but organic cotton is also better for the environment because it supports sustainable farming practices that help to reduce water consumption and soil degradation.

When you support our small business and choose our organic cotton products, you're not only doing your part to protect your child's health, but also helping to protect the planet. By choosing sustainable companies that use eco-friendly materials and practices, we can all work together to create a better future for ourselves and for future generations. So let's all do our part and support those green businesses!

As we celebrate Earth Day, let's take a moment to reflect on our own actions and the impact they have on the planet. Whether it's through spending more time in nature, utilizing plants and whole foods more regularly, or supporting sustainable companies, we all have the power to make a difference. So, let's set some intentional green goals for the year ahead and commit to making small changes in our daily lives that can add up to a big impact on the environment. Let's show our planet some love and do our part to create a better future for ourselves and future generations. Happy Earth Day!
